In 2007, Mr. Ros embarked on a quest to bring marine phytoplankton, specifically Nannochloropsis, to the market. His journey began in Holland, where one of the first producers using closed system tubes was located. While the quality was good, the price was steep at €600 (about $700) per kilogram. More importantly, production was plagued with issues like diseases and technical problems, leading to instability in supply.
Determined to find better options, Mr. Ros scoured the globe, exploring producers in Israel, Spain, Holland, Germany, China, USA, and Canada. However, the story remained the same: high prices and persistent production challenges. These ranged from technical issues and diseases to inconsistent nutrient profiles and contamination with heavy metals.
Mr. Ros's goal was clear: to lower prices, ensure stable production, and maintain high quality. It was a challenging path, but over the years, he made significant progress. One of his most reliable producers in Holland provided stable supply, good pricing, and high quality for an extended period. However, even they eventually faced a setback when a bacterial contamination halted their production, leaving Mr. Ros without a product to sell.
Facing this crisis, Mr. Ros turned to China. To his surprise, he discovered a thriving industry with numerous producers - a stark contrast to the limited options of the past. After ordering samples from ten different producers, he found three that stood out with excellent quality, stable production, and comprehensive certificates of analysis. Their service was outstanding, handling everything from production to packaging and shipping to the USA at very competitive prices.
This development has been a game-changer. It's made marine phytoplankton more accessible to people and animals alike. Moreover, working with multiple producers provides Mr. Ros with a safety net - if one faces issues, he can rely on others to maintain supply.
Mr. Ros understands that some customers in the USA might be skeptical about sourcing from China. However, his years of experience in this industry have shown him that Chinese producers are currently among the best in the world for marine phytoplankton. They also excel in producing other high-quality supplements like mushroom extracts, berberine, acerola, and acai. They even create custom formulas for Mr. Ros, such as DHA EPA astaxanthin oil supplements.
The journey from scarce, expensive, and unstable supply to abundant, affordable, and reliable production has been long and challenging. But today, thanks to advancements in production techniques and the emergence of skilled producers in China, marine phytoplankton is more accessible than ever before. This progress allows more people and animals to benefit from this remarkable superfood, marking a new chapter in the story of marine phytoplankton production.
